From quoting and client liaison to all things design, marketing and content creation...Jen does it all behind the scenes here at The Wonderbrand! She's as devoted as she is enthusiastic about the brand she has built from the ground up...so let's find out more about this Mancunian down-under...
What's the short story...
I'm originally from Manchester in the UK...home of two famous football clubs and a whole host of amazing musicians and cultural icons! I studied Media & TV Production at Huddersfield University, and worked for ten years in various marketing and advertising roles in London.
I've moved around quite a bit, but I am now settled in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia with my partner and our two young kiddos. My passions are design, travel, coffee and boho fashion...my favourite labels are Vagary The Label, Opia and Mahli.
I am a bit of a history nerd and I cannot bypass a period drama, with my favourites being Outlander, The Last Kingdom and Rome, amongst many, MANY others. Equally, I'll never stop loving the Kingsbridge series of books by Ken Follett. I am a big reader, and have a target of 75 books this year.
What's your Enneagram type?
I'm a Type 8, like Katniss Everdeen and Merida from Brave...and if you know me, you'll know exactly why! I am very determined, fiercely independent and a huge empath; I hate to see people in pain, and I am very loyal and protective of the ones I love. I am a passionate advocate for social justices, access to education and healthcare, etc, and fairness is very important to me. To my detriment, I don't always ask for help when I need it...but that's something I am working on :)
What inspires you?
So much! As a designer, I draw a lot of inspiration from fashion, music, interior design, nature and my love of the boho aesthetic. I enjoy endless scrolling sessions through Pinterest; I love to see what colours people are working with, and I always find other amazing designers to be the ultimate source of awe and motivation.
What design trends do you love right now?
I love that so many designers are experimenting with colour, and aren't just leaning into the colour combinations that make sense according to colour theory! I really enjoy the burnt orange/lilac combinations that we have been seeing of late, alongside palettes of pinks and lime green.
That and patterns; whether its floral, checkered or multiple abstract shapes...I love a good pattern!
Apart from your family, what drives you?
My clients and potential clients! The sheer thought of helping a small business owner feel 110% confident and motivated by their brand identity and website is something which brings me so much joy and a huge sense of fulfilment.
Also...travel. Because what is life without travel? I crave getting out and experiencing new places, and I really missed that during COVID times. My business was carved out of the promise of flexibility, and the ability to take my work with me wherever I go.
If you could go on holiday tomorrow, where would you go?
That's easy! Japan! We actually have a cruise to Japan booked for 2024, followed by a two week tour of Tokyo, Osaka Kyoto, Kobe and Nara and I am beyond excited! It has been a dream of mine to go to Japan for so long!
